Helena and Richard are so sweet with each other and so passionate for each other, I was glad to capture just a fraction of it!  Now, if I could only bottle it up and sell it!

You guys sizzled during our Malibu beach shoot and I can't wait for your Santa Barbara wedding next month!

I love helping out my community the best way I know how, through my photography.  Giving back is a huge part of Karen Ard Photography and would be part of my mission statement if I was organized enough to have one!  ha ha

One of the amazing organizations I belong to is called "Wish Upon A Wedding", a non-profit wedding-wish-granting organization that, if I remember correctly, is only about a year old but making huge strides in our industry. Through a network of like minded vendors, they provide weddings for individuals facing life-threatening illness.

They are currently in fundraiser mode and there are some great things happening over at their site that you can participate in:

Couples planning to be married can bid for wedding-related auction items online starting in October or at a Blissful Wishes Balls Nationwide in November, with all proceeds benefiting  Wish Upon a Wedding .

Wish Upon a Wedding is also currently seeking donated products or services in 46 cities, ranging from wedding gowns to tuxedos, invitations to cakes, and limousine services to honeymoons. It only takes a moment to register and make a difference in someone's life at Bidding for Good!  Be sure to add your item to the correct category (city), and don't forget to include your company logo and URL.  You'll be making a positive difference in someone's life who truly deserves it!

Rachel and Brian met in a dance class... not a surprise for two professional dancers.  They are so gorgeous, you could almost imagine the attraction in that room, on that first day of seeing each other.  After dating for awhile, Brian proposed to Rachel in Hawaii, where he was raised, so having a Malibu beach themed wedding was only appropriate for these two.

I loved the feel of this whole wedding.  They managed to keep it modern and fresh with the white on white decor (including purple and black accents) with a young Hollywood edge.  I loved working with Camilla from Element Weddings, who made the day flow so smoothly. And per my new requirement of only shooting weddings with a candy bar, my sweet tooth was fulfilled.  Naw, just kidding... well, sort of kidding...

When Rachel put her wedding dress on, everyone gasped at how amazing the dress was and how breathtaking she looked...

I think Rachel was on the mark with her peacock feather accents.  I'm seeing them pop up in a lot of wedding details.

And of course our groom.  How good looking is this guy!

So thrilled that these two opted for seeing each other before the wedding. We got all our portraits done so after the wedding they were able to be with their friends and family right away.  To say it was a very windy day would be an understatement but we found a great place for Rachel to hide as Brian come around to see her.

I love that the officiant talked about binding their love, using a cloth to 'tie the knot" and bring them together...

While I sit here on a quite Sunday editing photos, watching the World Cup, being with my family and other ADD activities that distract me, I thought I'd do an episode of 'What's in the Mix'.  I started creating these last year, with the intention of doing it once a month so as to share my love of all things musical. The last one I did was over a year ago though!!!!!! I guess I've been busy.

Before I start though, here are my observations of the World Cup from a non-soccer/football watcher:
  • I was hoping Spain would win because they never have and they deserved the win that just took place
  • soccer players are really cute
  • I love that they rip off their shirts after a goal
  • macho, grown men aren't afraid to cry on national TV.  That is sexy!

So here is part three of 'What's in the Mix', which is the next ten random songs that play on my iPod:

  1. "It's Been a While" by the Staind (I love Aaron Lewis' voice)
  2. "Tell Me" by Stevie Ray Vaughan (It's Stevie Ray... that says it all)
  3. "Los Angeles" by X (LA's local punk band... listened to this all through Jr. High and High School)
  4. "Lay Lady Lay" by Bob Dylan (classic Dylan... hey I named my son after him, what more do you want!)
  5. "Boogie Nights" by Heatwave (love me some disco)
  6. "The Power of Goodbye" by Madonna (listened to her Ray of Light CD a lot when it came out)
  7. "My Back Pages" by Bob Dylan (this is an awesome live version sung by Tom Petty, Neil Young, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Roger McGuinn and Dylan.  I love the lyric ' "Rip down all hate", I screamed')
  8. "Baby Love" by Diana Ross and the Supremes (fun to sing in front of a mirror with my hair brush!)
  9. "Leave It" by Yes (this seemed so, I don't know, futuristic when it came out)
  10. "January Rain" by David Gray (another voice I could listen to for endless hours.  And of course, great song writing)
I made an iTunes iMix of the songs, but for some reason iTunes isn't picking up the "My Back Pages" song.  Anyone know how to fix that?

(Okay, so this vacation doesn't fit my typical Day Trippin' post but I kinda like it so I'm keeping it here!)

Although I'm a California girl, born and raised, I had never made it to Yosemite National Park. And every time we thought of going we couldn't get a reservation.  This time we made a reservation a year in advance to secure a tent cabin in Curry Village and last week our travel date finally arrived. To say the beauty of Yosemite Valley is breathtaking isn't giving the park justice. I'm so grateful that our forefathers had the vision to preserve such an amazing part of our country. We did quite a bit of hiking, river rafting and relaxing.  I'm so glad I was able to share this beauty with my kids and create what I hope will be great memories for them.

On a side note, Happy Fourth of July. I plan on spending the day with the kiddos (the Firefighter is working today so local LA people, don't get crazy with those fireworks near the dry hillside shrubs!), baking chocolate chip cookies, going to see 'Grown-ups' (anyone see that yet?) and watching fireworks at a local park.

What are your plans? Leave a comment about what you plan to do today and one lucky winner will win a mini-social-network-headshot-session! (to be shot on location in Woodland Hills)  And while you're here, please look around and vote on some of your favorite images.  We need new photos at the top of the blog! Meanwhile, enjoy just a few of the hundreds of photos I took on our trip...
